I’ve got Video Game Music Stuck in my Head: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages – Skull Dungeon Theme

Every now and then, a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Today, it’s the little ditty above from The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.

One of my favourite aspects of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages – and Oracle of Seasons – is that each dungeon has its very own theme song. My favourite theme song plays when you enter Level 4, Skull Dungeon.

This theme has an unsettling melody, making it the perfect song for traversing a dungeon full of lava. It suggests that an unknown danger is around every corner, and that one mistake will cost Link his life.

Every now and then, a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Tonight, it’s the little ditty above from Super Mario Bros. 2.

Nothing warms my heart up more than the overworld theme from Super Mario Bros. 2, in fact, I consider it to be one of the best Super Mario Bros. themes. There are two layers here that fit together to create one of the most uplifting video game themes I’ve ever heard. Though at first, you might listen to its main jingle, I always catch myself listening for that bad ass bass line.

As a bonus, I’ve included this ragtime version as sight-read by Tom Brier.

I’ve shared LennartAlsing covers before, but since a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has been announced, I want to share more. These three covers happen to be three of my favourite, and they include the Dark Mountain & Forest, Hyrule Castle, and Dark World themes.

Every now and then a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Tonight, it’s the little ditty above from Final Fantasy VII.

While Final Fantasy VII may not be my favourite Final Fantasy game, its battle theme strikes a chord with me. No other battle theme gets my blood pumping quite like this epic track. I can feel the struggle in my hands and the desire for triumph every time I listen to this song. I want to continue the grind, fight further, and wrong every right.

Good things come to those who fight through adversity, keep fighting.

Not heavy enough for you? How about a sweet metal remix?

I’ve got Video Game Music Stuck in my Head – EarthBound – Onett Theme

Every now and then a certain song will come along and get stuck in my damn head. Tonight it’s the little ditty above from EarthBound, you jerk.

Whenever I remember playing EarthBound as a kid, this is the track that stands out immediately. I remember how cool it was to just walk around Onett and explore. For me, exploring Onett actually came before continuing the rest of the game. Who wouldn’t want to do a little exploring? There is a Town Hall, Drugstore, Burger Shop and even an Arcade, so there isn’t a lack of stuff to do. Read more

I’ve got Video Game Music Stuck in my Head – Wave Race 64 – Main Theme

Every now and then a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Today it’s the little ditty above from Wave Race 64.

Every couple of months I seem to gravitate towards this song. Not only does it offer some kick ass guitar, but there is also a great drum beat to boot. I guess I come back to this song a lot because it reminds me of playing the N64 for the first time. Super Mario 64 may have been my first N64 game, but Wave Race 64 was the second and its music brings back more memories than Mario. Read more

Every now and then a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Today it’s the little ditty above from Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.

OK, so the above is the PS2 version, but the 3DS version is identical. Regardless, this song wraps up everything that is Metal Gear Solid; an epic espionage tale of a potential nuclear war with lots of sexy spread throughout. This song really comes alive with an amazing lyrical performance by Cynthia Harrell. In fact, the lyrics aren’t only beautifully sung by Cynthia, but they tell a tale that’s yet to happen. Read more

I’ve got Video Game Music Stuck in my Head – The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – Bazaar

Every now and then a certain song will come along and get stuck in my head. Today it’s the little ditty above from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

I can’t even come close to an estimate for the amount of hours spent inside Skyloft’s Bazaar. One step inside this magical tent and you are hit with an upbeat song that almost encourages you to spend Link’s hard earned Rupees. Walking around the Bazaar was a lot of fun, not only to power up weapons or potions, but to listen to the area come alive. Read more
